Zoning Board of Appeals

Overview

The Zoning Board of Appeals serves as an administrative and quasi-judicial body whose determinations can provide relief from strict or literal interpretation of the Zoning Ordinance that may cause unnecessary hardship on property owners. The Board decides applications for area and use variances and presides over appeals on decisions by an administrative official charged with the enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance. In addition, the Board has original jurisdiction to determine applications for certain special use permits as well as plans for the reconstruction or modification of certain non-conforming buildings and requests to change non-conforming uses.

Meetings

The Zoning Board of Appeals meets on the 1st Wednesday of every month (except August) at 7:00 pm in the Common Council Chambers, City Hall. Parking is available at the Hamilton & Main Street municipal parking garage.
