City of White Plains Breaks Language Barriers

City of White Plains News Posted on October 06, 2025

In a continuing effort to make local government more accessible and inclusive, City of White Plains is proud to announce its partnership with Wordly, an AI-powered translation platform, to provide state-of-the-art real-time translation services at all Common Council meetings.  Beginning October 6,  residents who attend meetings in person or virtually will have the option to listen to or read live translations in their preferred language using their own smartphones or other devices.

"We are proud to take this important step towards greater inclusivity and accessibility," said Mayor Thomas Roach.  "By offering real-time translation at our Common Council meetings, we're ensuring that everyone in the City of White Plains regardless of the language they speak, has the opportunity to express their opinions and stay informed about the issues that affect them.  This ultimately strengthens our City as a whole."

Residents can experience the translation service firsthand at future Common Council meetings.  Community members are encouraged to bring their own devices and headphones if they wish to listen to live audio translations or follow along with a transcript.
