Coronavirus update for Monday, October 19, 2020

Seal - gold and blue

The County estimates that there are 1,033 active cases in the county as a whole, the highest number since June 6th. The county estimates that there are 30 active cases in White Plains. The cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 2,031.

The number of new cases is on an upswing in Westchester County. There are several factors driving this increase, including cooler weather driving more people to indoor activities, students returning to school, and COVID fatigue. We are 8 months into this Pandemic and it is understandable that fatigue with COVID protocols is setting in. The upswing in the numbers is a serious reminder to all of us that we must not let our guard down. We’ve come this far, don’t let up now, please continue to wear your masks!

Early voting starts this Saturday, October 24th and goes through November 1st. For early voting only, you can vote at any early voting location in the County. You are not required to vote at the White Plains location. Go to citizenparticipation.westchestergov.com for more information.

In response to the Governor’s Executive Order on police reform, I have appointed a White Plains Police Reform Committee to undertake a review of the WPPD. The Committee, in collaboration with the NAACP White Plains/Greenburgh Branch, is hosting public comment sessions. The next sessions will be on Wednesday, October 21st at 4 PM, and Thursday, October 29th at 7 PM. Go to cityofwhiteplains/policereform for more details about the work of this committee and how you can participate.

Our next call will be on Monday, October 26th.  Until then remember, we are standing together by staying apart.
