The 2020 General Election is Around the Corner!

Vote 2

The 2020 General Election is Around the Corner!

The 2020 General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd. Registered voters will be able to vote for President as well as their Congressperson, and their State Senate and Assembly Members.

We know that many residents remain concerned about voting due to the lingering presence of the Coronavirus in our area. It’s important to know that there are voting options available to you.

  • The deadline to register to vote in the November 3rd General Election is October 9th
  • A new State law permits any registered voter to request a mail-in (absentee) ballot if they cannot show up at a polling location because of the risk of contracting or spreading an illness. Absentee ballot applications can be requested now. Once you fill out the application you can submit it online, in person, or by mail. The Board of Elections will start mailing the actual ballots in early October. These ballots will be counted as long as they are postmarked by Election Day. Mail-in voting may be a good option for you if you wish to completely avoid the contact with other people and equipment that is part of in-person voting. Contact the Westchester County Board of Elections to request an absentee ballot.
  • You can print your absentee ballot request from here. In section 1, check the box for “temporary illness or physical disability,” and in section 2, check the box for “General Election”.
  • You can return your absentee ballot request form by:
    • Sending an email request to BOE-WestAbsentee@westchestergov.com;
    • Sending a fax request to (914) 995-7753 or (914) 995-3190; or
    • Dropping it off in person or mailing it to the Westchester County Board of Elections, 25 Quarropas Street, White Plains, NY 10601
  • All completed absentee ballots can be dropped off at any of these locations:
    • The Board of Elections office located at 25 Quarropas St, White Plains, NY 10601
    • any early voting poll site from Saturday, Oct. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 1
    • any Nov. 3 Election Day poll site
  • New York State will once again offer Early Voting prior to Election Day. For the 2020 General Election, Early Voting will be held from October 24th through November 1st. This in-person option may be a good one for you if your schedule is such that voting on Election Day is difficult and/or if you wish to minimize contact as well as the lines and wait times anticipated on Election Day.
  • The early voting location for White Plains is the Westchester County Board of Elections, located at 25 Quarropas Street.
  • NOTE: For early voting ONLY, you can vote at any early voting location in the County. See list of locations: https://citizenparticipation.westchestergov.com/voting/early-voting-2020
  • Early Voting Times:
    • Wednesday, Oct. 28: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    • Thursday, Oct. 29: Noon - 9 p.m.
    • Friday, Oct. 30: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    • Saturday, Oct. 31: Noon - 6 p.m.
    • Sunday, Nov. 1: Noon - 6 p.m.
  • Accessible Voting. Voters who need to use an accessible voting machine do not need to call ahead or make a reservation to use these machines. The machines will be available at all polling locations both during the early voting period and on Election Day. All a voter needs to do is let a poll worker know they want to use the accessible machine when they check in.

We’ll continue to provide voting information to residents as we get closer to Election Day!
