Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for Residents May 29, 2020

Seal - gold and blue

The most recent data provided by the county today indicates the cumulative number of people who have tested positive in White Plains since testing began is 1,740.The county estimates the number of active cases in White Plains to be 50. There was 1 new case reported in the City of White Plains today. NYS makes additional statewide and county-by-

county data available at covid19tracker.health.ny.gov.

A reminder to businesses: All businesses must file an affirmation with New York State indicating that they have reviewed the reopening guidance provided by the state and understand their obligation to operate in accordance with that guidance. Businesses reopening as part of phase one may complete this document online at: https://forward.ny.gov/

Good news from the Library: On Monday, June 15th the library will initiate contactless, curbside pick-up. You can request a specific book, DVD, CD, or a selection of materials by phone and then drive through the library cut-away on Martine Ave. to pick up your items. This service will be available to White Plains library cardholders only. The book drop return re-opens on June 8th, however no overdue fines will be assessed until 30 days after the library opens to the public. For more information on both contactless, curbside pick-up and the book drop go to the library website: whiteplainslibrary.org.

Today 5 regions in New York State (North Country, Finger Lakes, Central NY, Mohawk Valley, and Southern tier) advanced to Phase 2 of reopening. We are scheduled to join them on June 8th but only if the Covid-19 data continues on the positive track we have established. Compliance will never be universal, but the levels we have seen in White Plains have been excellent.

And now, a few items residents have asked me to stress in the call. Please remember that your face covering should cover your mouth AND your nose.

Please remember to wear your face mask inside public establishments and outside when it is likely you will be within 6 feet of others such as on the sidewalk. Remember I wear my mask for you; you wear your mask for me!

And finally, please do not discard masks or gloves on the street, sidewalks, in parks, or on private property. Not only does it look unsightly, it is unfair to put the burden on city crews and residents to pick up after you. Tonight 3 words to those who engage in this practice: Cut it out!

We are going to begin a Monday & Thursday schedule for our update calls.

We will of course do additional calls if there is breaking news. Our next call is scheduled for Monday. Until then, we are standing together by staying apart.
