Feeding Westchester

Family Services of Westchester
RideConnect, a program of Family Services of Westchester, has been providing volunteer based transportation for over 10 years to older adults in Westchester & Southern Putnam counties. These rides are for medical, shopping, social visits, religious services and more. At this time, while RideConnect continues to provide this volunteer based transportation for critical medical appointments, we have also enlisted volunteers to do essential shopping for older adults such as groceries, and medication pick-ups. Meals on Wheels White Plains
Delivers meals to households in White Plains. They are making deliveries twice a week and providing a frozen meal for the days they don’t visit. SUPERMARKETS - Special Hours/Lanes:
Whole Foods Market - Located on Bloomingdale Road. Customers over 60 years old can shop one hour early, 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM each day.
Stop and Shop - Both locations - Westchester Avenue and North Broadway. Customers over 60 years old as well as customers with compromised immune systems can shop from 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM each day.
ShopRite - Located in City Center. Customers over 60 years old can shop from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM each day.
Trader Joe’s - Located on central Avenue in Hartsdale. Seniors have a special shopping line from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM each day.
H Mart - Located on Central Avenue in Hartsdale. The first hour that the store is open each day, 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM., is reserved for seniors, pregnant women and the handicapped.
Many local restaurants are offering curbside pickup, take-out, and/or delivery. Some food delivery apps, including UberEats, are waiving their delivery fees. The Library also continues to send out weekly e-newsletters that highlight virtual activities and resources for adults, teens and children. Sign up through the website.
United Way of Westchester and Putnam
As a convener and provider of resources, United Way has always been uniquely positioned in the community, in partnership with the nonprofit and government sector, to respond, provide assistance and support residents during times of uncertainty. United Way has a 24/7 help line. Dial 211 and press “2” for connections to Coronavirus-related resources.
DOROT of Westchester
DOROT works with older adults who range in age from 60 to over 100 providing vital services and companionship to those who have difficulty leaving home without support. Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS)
Offers geriatric care managers available to assist seniors (age 60 and over) by phone. Their staff can provide information and referrals to help seniors get what they need. The LOFT LGBT :
During this difficult time, The LOFT is providing:
- 21 Virtual Support Groups to the local LGBTQ community
- grocery runs for the most vulnerable (seniors, immune-compromised, and those with special needs)
- conducting daily check-in calls on those living alone and those who are vulnerable.
