The numbers released by NY State today indicate Westchester County now has 2894 cases of which 1021 are new. There are approximately 21,000 positive cases in NY State; 3,000 of those cases are in Westchester and of those, 55 are White Plains residents. The total number of people tested in Westchester County is approaching 15,000. With each passing day, we are anticipating that the numbers will continue to grow. Eventually the numbers of new cases will stabilize and then decline. How quickly we get there depends on you. Keep doing your part to flatten the curve!
It is looking increasingly likely that the County Center, host to everything from muppets to coin shows, will be brought into service as an overflow hospital, one of the measures being taken in an effort to ensure adequate, quality, medical care for all who need it. The Army Corps of Engineers is examining the site as we speak and we have let the county know that we stand ready to assist as needed.
I would like to take a moment to give thanks and appreciation to my City of White Plains colleagues who are keeping us safe and continuing to deliver city services. Roads are still being cleaned, garbage and recycling are being picked up, water and sewer systems maintained, information collected and distributed we are being protected by public safety and much more. Their efforts help bring a sense of stability to an unprecedented situation. We are asking so much of them and all they are asking of us is that we stay home.
Thanks also to nurses, doctors, and first responders who are working long hours, away from their families, under difficult conditions. They are the true heroes who are going into battle every day. We are asking a lot of them and all they are asking of us is that we stay home
Remember we are standing together by staying apart.
